So Still The TV PlayedHer body lay still in the empty room.
All the frail little furniture pieces were nothing.
The two beds made neatly in soft blankets.
The stained and cozy arm chairs.
The wooden dressers standing tall with pride in their furnished polish.
None of it made this room home.
The TV played, while no one watched.
She sat in the chair.
The other bed empty, though a pair of brown slippers sat neglected by the side.
A dull light streamed in through the parted blinds.
And still the TV played;
some man going on about politics.
Everyone knew the man by Barack Obama, but this name is meaningless to the woman in the chair.
The lights were turned off, the only light was the evening sun and the yellow hall light.
Voices echoed from the same hall, but still the woman lay still.
Even while a man was yelling, clear as day, "GO TO HELL WITH YOU", she still lay silent.
A man in suspenders and a red shirt wandered in.
A voice said "Hello" from somewhere within the room, and he smiled and left.
