The room smelled stale. Like the stiffness escaping from the door of an attic that hadn’t been opened in years. There was a dim sort of air to the room, long shadows tossed and dark orange lines where the setting sun seeped through the blinds along the far wall. The shadows seemed to melt into one another; dark candle wax stuck to the golden wall. The small rounded table was grounded in the center of the room, as if afraid to move. He walked the streets once again that night, eyes reflecting tiresome anxieties. Where will I sleep tonight?, a thought that often came to mind. The gutters or the park bench? He frequently dwelled on his sleeping arrangements, but in the end it didn’t really matter. Whether tucked neatly into a cotton dream or cramped crookedly on a pile of rugged rubble, he would still just be a lonely kid with nothing but the dirty clothes on a dirty back eroding at an alarming pace.     If you were to ask an existentialist, "what is the meaning of life?" they might say something like, "I'm not sure what the real meaning is, but there has to be one; why else would we be put here?".  If you were to ask me, or another pessimistic existentialist, I'd say, "There is none.  I don't know if our creation was a mistake that was too big to fix, or a joke that was too funny to stop, but there's no real meaning to our existence".  And that's the sad, sad truth.  At least in my perspective.    Humans make human lives out to be something amazing; and I suppose in a sad way they are.  We don't know who or what put us here, or why.  S
